The MMRC is proud to announce the launch of the Multiple Myeloma Genomics Initiative, a multi-million dollar research program designed to rapidly accelerate progress made against multiple myeloma by significantly improving the understanding of the biology of the disease. Spearheaded by the MMRC, and in collaboration with the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) and the Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, the Multiple Myeloma Genomics Initiative is the most comprehensive research collaboration of its kind that focuses on cancer genomics, opening a new front in the battle against multiple myeloma. To date, the MMRC has accrued the first 60 untreated myeloma tissue samples and has transferred to collaborators, signaling the operational launch of this cutting-edge project. The MMRC welcomes the addition of three new Member Institutions: City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, Calif., Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, N.J., Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio, and Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y. Bringing the total number of MMRC Member Institutions to 11, the addition of these four outstanding institutions will accelerate the pace by which tissue samples are accrued into the MMRC Tissue Bank and will enable the MMRC to support additional Phase I and Phase II clinical trials and associated correlative studies. "We believe the MMRC's unique research model has tremendous potential to advance myeloma research and drug discovery efforts," said Sherif Farag, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Ohio State University. "It is our true privilege to join the MMRC in their mission of bringing new treatments to patients as quickly as possible."
The MMRC is pleased to announce that is has selected LabVantage, a leading provider of biospecimen management, to serve as it preferred biobanking partner. Under this partnership, LabVantage has tailoried its Sapphire BioBanking Solution to support the collection, banking, and tracking of biospecimens through the MMRC Tissue Bank in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Importantly, this cutting-edge solution also enables the MMRC to manage comprehensive clinical data, medical histories, and critical genomic and phenotypic data associated with biospecimens under compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), other regulatory requirements, and Good Clinical Practices (GLP).
